Is your organisation protected?

Many organisations are either ignorant of the level of protection - or lack of it - that they have, or have a false sense of security resulting from having deployed an ineffective or outdated solution.

How do you move forward?

The following points needs to be considered in order to ensure that organisations, employees and directors are protected from internal and external misuse of their IT systems:

• The enemy is often within the organisation as well as being a remote cyber criminal
• The prospect that current security systems that you may have deployed are not effective
• If you do not take appropriate action then eventually you - or your organisation - will be a victim

The 2006 Information Security Breaches Survey found the following:

• 52% of large companies said employees abused internet services and 43% said staff misused their email.
• A survey of 1,000 people found that 41% of the worst incidents involved staff accessing inappropriate websites and a further 36% of worst incidents related to excessive web surfing.
• The most serious involved access to illegal material; several companies reported staff accessing child pornography.
• The cost of employee fraud to companies has almost doubled over the past two years to reach over £78m

The key questions are how do companies, organisations and their directors protect themselves from:

• Potential litigation?

• Damage to their reputation?

• Infringement of appropriate laws?

• Theft of company information?

• Employee misuse?

• Infection by criminals?

• Failure of the organisations IT Systems causing business disruption?
