    Setting up WebDefender:

If users are being added to WebDefender manually, (i.e. not using AD Sync), then it is important that the usernames created match the names that users log on to Windows with.

WebDefender handles certain characters differently than Windows

    • spaces are replaced with underscores.
    • All other characters must be [a-z, A-Z, 0-9-_], or they will be removed.

(Note also that the "|" character (vertical bar) is also replaced with underscore.)

Another issue to be aware of is that Windows user names are case insensitive, whereas WebDefender requires lower case.

For example, Windows logon 'John Smith' must have a corresponding WebDefender logon of 'john_smith'.

Symptom: If users are getting the default filter policy applied then this is probably the reason i.e. their username is not recognised by WebDefender so they revert to the base level filter policy.
